When Everything Falls Apart

Grief may occur when we lose people we love deeply.  Sometimes, it feels impossible to move forward with our lives when grief is strong, though ultimately, finding meaning in loss is considered a natural stage of grieving.   While processing our grief, mindful awareness of our inner speech is important, and he shares Thich Nhat Hanh’s wisdom and mindfulness’s importance. When everything falls apart, engaging often with loving and compassionate thoughts and actions impacts us differently than with judgmental or disempowering thoughts and actions.   Within this framework, Dr. Anthony Wilson reflects on how he moved forward after the death of his husband, Coretta Scott King moved forward after the death of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and how grief expert Dr. David Kessler moved forward with his life after the loss of his son.  He discusses how finding meaning changed how they experienced grief and engaged in service to others. Creating meaning in our lives with mindful awareness from a place of love for ourselves and others while grieving our loss can connect us emotionally, physically, and spiritually to ourselves and each other, fostering joy, healing, and energizing actions directed at creating a better world.
