Director of Religious Exploration (Part-Time)

Position Summary
Westminster Unitarian Church (WUC) seeks a Part-Time Director of Religious Exploration (DRE) to lead faith development for children, youth, and their families. Serving in shared ministry with the Minister, staff, and the SEEK Committee, the DRE provides vision, coordination, and relational leadership grounded in Unitarian Universalist values and covenantal practice.

The DRE cultivates inclusive, developmentally appropriate faith development experiences that nurture UU identity, deepen belonging, and support lifelong spiritual growth. The successful candidate models inclusive, anti-oppressive practice and fosters welcoming, affirming learning environments for all families.

Congregational Context
WUC is a welcoming, socially liberal congregation in the UUA New England Region with approximately 210 members and 35 children in Religious Exploration. We offer Sunday morning faith development for grades K–12 and are a certified LGBTQ+ Welcoming Congregation, Green Sanctuary, and Sexually Safer Best Practices Congregation, with an active commitment to anti-racism and social justice.

Core Responsibilities

 Design and lead faith development programming for nursery through high school
 Ground programming in UU theology, ethics, and covenantal values
 Recruit, train, and support volunteer faith development leaders
 Collaborate with the Minister and Music Director on seasonal faith development
worship and activities
 Offer Time for All Ages during worship 1–3 times per month in coordination with
the Minister
 Welcome and orient new families and support ongoing family engagement
 Coordinate Religious Exploration communications and materials
 Uphold Safer Congregations policies and serve on the Response Team

Qualifications

 Experience in religious education, education, childcare, youth ministry, or related field
 Commitment to Unitarian Universalist values and inclusive practice
 Strong relational, communication, and organizational skills
 Experience supporting volunteers
 Comfort with technology (Google Workspace, Zoom, Breeze)
 Ability to pass a comprehensive background check
 Member of or willing to join LREDA

Compensation and Benefits
Compensation and benefits per UUA Fair Compensation Guidelines (GeoIndex 4). Part-time, non-exempt position at 0.65 FTE with benefits paid at 65%, including health, dental, vision, retirement contribution, paid leave, and professional expense support.
