Quaker Comet

What Is Quakerism?

Who is in the portrait? Join a couple of members of the Providence Monthly Meeting (Quakers) in a presentation/discussion about Quakerism. Learn the concept of the inner light, do Quakers quake? Do they have Ministers? What is continuing revelation? Do they believe in the scriptures? Is sitting in silence a form of meditation? What do they believe?

Side Note;
I learned about Benjamin Lay from our very own UUA Beacon Press, which has published the most recent, and I believe excellent biography (by Marcus Rediker) of a truly astounding individual well ahead of his time. An abolitionist, animal rights activist, vegan,
little person, who made all his clothing and food, lived in a cave, and practiced guerrilla theatre to make his points. And yes, a Quaker. (This was in the freakin’ 1750’s!!) If you want a fascinating summer read, this may fit the bill. I donated my copy to the Providence Friends Meeting Library, where they didn’t have one.
