Today we honor mothers, fathers, and every parent who has dedicated their lives to the sacred act of loving and caring for a young person. To be a parent is to experience some of life’s greatest joys and deepest loves. And to be a parent can also be to experience some of life’s greatest heartaches and toughest challenges. Whether baby or adult our children live in our hearts and minds 24/7 – being a parent is not a part-time or limited time endeavor. And while not everyone will become a parent, we are all impacted by the way that parenting is seen in our culture. We are all harmed by the myth that the nuclear family is superior to communal care of our children. Today we pause to say thank you to those that parent. We see you. And we explore how we, as a community, can help to overcome the harm created by our culture of isolation parenting.
