As we pass through the second anniversary of George Floyd’s murder, witness to one-million United States deaths and over six-million worldwide from COVID, and mark the ongoing devastation of gun violence, war, and climate change, how do we continue to name and claim Memorial Day from a broadened perspective as a Unitarian Universalist people? What are our spiritual practices for collective reckoning through attention to the prophetic possibilities posed by commemorating public holidays?

Brief Bio: Rev. Dr. Michelle Walsh, PhD, LICSW is a Unitarian Universalist community minister who is a certified Internal Family Systems therapist/practitioner and trained spiritual director with a private practice known as Sacred Play Explorations. She brings a wide variety of lived experiences with urban, parish, and academic ministry to her preaching, writing, and work with individuals and groups. She also is the author of Violent Trauma, Culture, and Power: An Interdisciplinary Exploration in Lived Religion.
