Recounting memories of those we were close to us who have passed can be a beautiful part of experiencing gratitude for their lives. Hearing stories of other’s experiences with our loved ones can be heartwarming. And yet, it can also be true that not all memories are filled with gratitude and joy. Not all stories are those of happy times and good deeds. This morning as we honor those who have passed in our annual Day of Remembrance ritual we also pause to remember that honoring those loved ones can be complicated. Today we give room for the praise and the anger, the joy and the pain of relationships as “We Remember Them.”
