The Promise of UUism

There was a time when it was believed that to be part of a religion meant that one must adhere to a specific set of beliefs or the established creed of that religion. OK, even today, most people associate religion with belief. And yet you have probably noticed that among us are theists, atheists, agnostics, pantheists, deists, panentheists (I’ll explain these this week), and even more self-defined belief systems attending this same congregation! So what makes us a religion? Last Sunday, we looked at the role of revelation in the making of a new kind of religion. This week, we continue this exploration of Unitarian Universalism and the abiding Promise beneath it all.
