Supporting Westminster Unitarian Church

Unitarian Universalist congregations are unique in their governance and in the way they sustain themselves through the commitment of their members. Unlike many religious traditions that receive support from a larger denominational body, UU congregations are fully autonomous. Each community makes its own decisions about worship, programming, outreach, staffing, and facilities.

This independence is both a gift and a responsibility: it allows congregations to reflect the values of their people, while also relying on those same people to provide the resources needed to thrive.

Financial support comes primarily from the generosity of members and friends. Contributions maintain the buildings, support staff, fund religious education, and sustain programs that bring the congregation’s mission to life. This giving is more than a practical necessity—it is an expression of shared values and a commitment to building community together.

Because UU congregations are self-sustaining, every gift of time, talent, and treasure helps shape the life of the community. In this way, they embody the principle of interdependence: individuals supporting the whole, and the whole nurturing each individual. What makes Unitarian Universalist congregations thrive is not outside funding, but the heartfelt generosity and dedication of their members.

 

The Annual Budget Drive

Each fall, the Board of Trustees presents a proposed budget to the congregation for discussion and amendment as needed. Once approved, we pick a theme that speaks to the moment and the Annual Budget Drive begins!

This year, as last, we will kick off our budget drive with a Stewardship Conversation and a catered meal after service. This is a great time to get to know others in the congregation, affirm what you love about your community, and pledge your support together.

This year’s conversation and luncheon will be held on Sunday, November 15. Note, we will have one service this day at 10 am, followed by our conversation circles and our shared meal.
