What is a Call?
Candidating Week is an intense process in which a minister and an
entire congregation try to discern whether they could build a
satisfying long-term relationship. It’s an immensely important
endeavor, and your participation is crucial.
The congregational meeting is the culmination of the week when we will
decide whether or not to call Rev. Barbara Fast as our Minister.
To call a minister is a formal process that is much more than just
offering a job. And ministers accept a position because they have
a strong spiritual calling to serve a specific church.
In the words of Rev. John Weston, Director of the UUA Settlement
Office, “A call is a sense, an intense conviction that what a minister
has to offer is what a faith community needs. That what the
minister brings will help them thrive. Together they can move
ahead, move out, make tracks, go somewhere. It is incredibly
exciting.” The intensity of this commitment explains why we must
have approval for the candidate by a margin well above 90%.
This is YOUR choice.
Please learn as much as you can during candidating week so you can make
the right vote for both you and the congregation as a whole. The
congregational meeting to call Barbara Fast as our minister will be
held on April 30, following the one service to be held at 10:00
AM. In order to open the meeting, we need 50% of our voting
membership present. (According to current records, we will need
close to 100 members there to start the meeting.) If you have any
questions about the process, contact a member of the Search Committee.
